May 2010: Unfortunately I am having to cut back on the number of websites I run; this one will be left in situ until the hosting contract expires, although I will retain the domain name. The economic situation is one that I do not expect to improve at any time soon. I will be adding some of the images to my website at www.christinederrick.co.uk, so that they are not lost to online viewing. Therefore this will be the final news update on abstractswork.

February 2010; it's been several months since I wrote anything on this news-site.The latter part of the year was busy with finishing off and framing other pictures that had been sold just prior to Christmas. I also spent some time setting up a back-up website, as a precaution in this current period of considerable financial and electronic instability. There hasn't been a lot of time to focus on doing experimental work or just "playing"....but I am doing something now, and should have one or two pieces to put up during February and March.

October 2nd; I've been busy painting other subject-matter for a while, to go on my other websites, but am currently developing a semi-abstract landscape, in an analogous colour-scheme of yellows and reds. I've also picked up some interesting texture-mediums from the Golden range; all still to explore, to see what they can do.

August 4th; "Summer Seaview" at Gallery 1.

July 25th; New painting "Garden Jazz" now in Gallery 2. This one also appears at my other website. My earlier ideas with using gesso on board or canvas have been revived in this painting, since I wanted to produce more than just a simple flat image of floral shapes. In the end, it proved to be an interesting work-out, since the background became almost as lively as the flowers themselves, with the addition of several thin layers of acrylic along with metallic washes. I particularly liked doing the globe-thistle flowers, since they went well with the texture. At present, I have another painting ongoing, a sea-view in acrylic over a textured base; that may be completed in the next week or so, and online.
