This website is being run on to expiry-date without further updates, due to economic cutbacks. Please see the NewsPage for more details

footThere are as many ways of producing an abstract painting as there are ripples across a lake. Some are soft and vague, some are loud and explosive. Many are derived from dreams, or reality, or sometimes nothing at all. Many are made from off-the-wall thoughts, others play with coloured effects, mixing shapes and shades to create new visions.

Landscapes will play a larger part in the subject-matter here. I also like to explore the microscopic depths of Nature. Natural objects such as stones, pebbles, leaves, crystals, all hide fascinating images that remain forever beyond the sight of the ordinary man....unless he seeks it out on purpose. One has to deliberately deviate from the mainstream of life in order to spend time observing small details; while the rest of the world sails along and marvels only at the "bigger picture". Such studies will pop up now and then here.

This website will feature paintings of landscapes where shape, texture and colour are given priority over accurate topographical depiction of "place". I will not be concentrating on any particular type of landscape; all kinds will be used. Some will use experimental texture-ideas to give further interest to the painting's surface. I will also include non-abstract pieces to complement others in a series or group of work.

Now and then a few paintings will be purely from imagination, created as a result of mentally "incubating" images from recent holidays, visits, scientific articles or SF reading. This is not a particularly easy process and must be approached on an intuitive basis, rather than mechanical.

footI use acrylics and oils for canvas-work; the former being best-suited to dealing with textured works where other materials are included within the paint. I am also experimenting with soft pastels on a broader subject base, since their delicate, dry powdery nature offers qualities that are missing in the wet media. Normally my work in this medium is fairly controlled. This is a new site but fresh paintings will not necessarily be available every week. It does not aim to compete with "daily painters", Ebay or similar efforts that are focussed purely on making money, but is one of exploration and experimentation. If you see something that you like and wish to purchase, then please email me for details of the picture's availability and delivery. Please note that every work is unique; there are no prints, and textured work is guaranteed to have been produced by hand (mine!), not machine.

If you select the Gallery links in the navigation menu, left, you can go straight to the pictures. I have amalgamated them recently, having decided not to "theme" them any more, since my working-patterns have been disrupted in late 2008/early 2009
